‘Zachte Drempel’ is de eerste solotentoonstelling door Haagse kunstenaar Catelijne Boele, die plaats zal vinden van 6 – 15 februari in de projectruimte van kunstenaarsinitiatief SeeLab. Nadat Boele de Stroom Pro Invest bijdrage ontving, heeft zij haar praktijk verdiept door zich te focussen op grootschalige olieverfschilderijen. Deze nieuwe serie werken zijn een reflectie van een droomachtige wereld, geïnspireerd door haar recente vogelkijk ervaringen in het duinlandschap van Den Haag en de uitgestrekte bossen en velden in het oosten van Nederland. 

Boele’s schilderkunst is gedreven door haar persoonlijke verbondenheid met het natuurlijke landschap en een geest die geneigd is om te dwalen in fantasievolle verhalen. Deze elementen brengt zij samen in zachte en droomachtige kleurpaletten, waarin de lichamen van de majestueuze vogels doorvloeien in hun omgeving. Deze figuren zijn geen duidelijke gestalten, maar schimmige verschijningen die langzaam wegvallen in het landschap of voorzichtig opdoemen uit een atmosferisch kleurenspel. Haar schilderproces kan ook wel beschouwd worden als een sensitief evenwicht, een afwisselend spel tussen verschijning en verdwijning. Zoals het lichaam van de vogelkijker dat samenvalt met de eindeloze kleuren van het veld, of de onzichtbare vogel die je hoort zingen maar niet kan zien.

‘Zachte Drempel’ is the first solo exhibition by The Hague based artist Catelijne Boele, which will take place from the 6th till the 15th of February in the project space of artist initiative SeeLab. After receiving the Stroom Pro Invest grant, Boele deepened her practice by focusing on a new series of large-scale oil paintings. These works are a reflection of a dream world, inspired by her recent bird-watching experiences in the dunal landscape of The Hague and the elaborate forests and fields in the east of The Netherlands.

Boele’s painting practice is driven by her deep connection to the natural landscape and a mind that is prone to wander into imaginative narratives. She brings these elements together in soft, dreamlike colour palettes, where the bodies of the majestic birds seem to dissolve into their surroundings. These figures are therefore not distinct forms, but elusive apparitions that gradually fade into the landscape or cautiously emerge from an atmospheric play between colours. Her painting process can also be seen as a sensitive balancing act. A constant fluctuation between appearance and disappearance - such as the body of the birdwatcher dissolving into the endless hues of the field, or the invisible bird whose song you hear but cannot see.

Between Our Fingers

On January 16th from 18:00-20:30, Ghazale Moqanaki and Marieke Peeters present the launch of ‘Between Our Fingers’, a publication exploring the conceptual framework of the doll’s house at SeeLab.

The publication features contributions from artists Lore Pilzecker, Sohrab Kashani, Kiara Amartya, Ghazale Moqanaki, and Marieke Peeters who each approach the miniature from a different perspective. Bringing together essays, poetry, and visual artworks that interrogate the miniature as a site for reflection on domesticity, precarity, fantasy, and agency.

Historically, the doll’s house used to represent a particular cultural and social model of domestic life and reinforced that. Today, the doll’s house can be anything and it reveals desires, anxieties, and imagined realities that are otherwise difficult to articulate. This book examines the doll’s house as a symbol of control and desire, as well as a space of imaginative freedom in response to the increasingly inaccessible reality of housing as a right.

The book launch at SeeLab includes a performance program alongside video installations by contributors of the publication. The evening presents readings from the publication, a music performance by Ghazal Faghihi, and miniature food. Together, the publication and accompanying program present the doll’s house as a tool for imagination, critical reflection, and creative experimentation inviting visitors to reconsider the small worlds that reflect our own.

About the makers
Marieke Peeters and Ghazale Moqanaki are visual artists who have been collaborating and curating exhibitions and projects together since 2023. Their recent projects include the group exhibition ‘Bad Objects’ at Quartair (2024), the experimental theatre production ‘Garbage Mansion’ at Zaal 3 of The National Theatre (2025), and now the publication ‘Between Our Fingers’. For this publication, they invited Lore Pilzecker, a visual artist whose work explores impermanence and mortality through drawing, Sohrab Kashani, an artist working across performance, video, installation using alter-egos and speculative spaces, and Kiara Amartya, an artist whose work is inspired by ghosts, hauntings, and canine-like creatures. Marieke Peeters is a visual artist who creates immersive installations, sculptures, and films that combine material research with performance influenced by horror as a construct. Ghazale Moqanaki is a multidisciplinary artist who combines sounds, objects, and spaces and translates them through myths and stories.

Die Jahreszeiten

Die Jahreszeiten is a tailored and staged version of the oratorio of the same name that Joseph Haydn composed in 1801. In this performance, we explore the metamorphosis of the seasons in a phenomenological way. What, in fact, is the difference between spring and summer? Or between summer and autumn? The transformation of the seasons is as elusive as it is unmistakable.

It is likely no coincidence that the holidays coinciding with the solstices and equinoxes—Easter, the Feast of St. John, St. Michael’s Day, and Christmas—are all times of transition. The seasons are also linked to the four archangels: Raphael, Uriel, Michael, and Gabriel. They tell us stories with a deeply rooted mystical significance, heralds that reveal something about ourselves. In this “in-between space” or “transitional phase,” the poems of Rainer Maria Rilke will attempt to give voice to these experiences.

For how does a frozen, hushed winter night in the forest sound? Or a scorching summer afternoon in the fields? One thing is certain: you must leave your home to experience the moment and translate it into music. Outside, where you are exposed to the elements and confronted with the harmonious whole that mirrors our inner world and from which music arises. The happiness you feel when an early warm ray of spring sunshine brushes your skin. The sudden awareness that overtakes you as you stand beneath a cool and lucid starry sky. These are moments of meditation.

That is what it is about: hands in the soil, amid sun-drenched stalks of grain and grapevines. There, Mother Earth teaches us to work and to care for ourselves. With gratitude, we make, among other things, wine and bread from the riches she grants us, provided we keep our senses open to them. There, a humanistic world unfolds—one that fits our existence like a glove. That is why we gladly take you along on a journey through the year, and we hope it will give you—even if only for a moment—a happy experience.
